New concept for lightweight and powerful multi-role turret

Loncin, Belgium – October 13, 2020 – Always attentive to offering the world’s armed forces innovative solutions to the evolution of their operational requirements, John Cockerill Defense is presenting, at the AUSA virtual exhibition and for the first time on the North American continent, its new concept of light, precise, powerful and protected multi-role turret, the “Cockerill® 1030”.

The new John Cockerill Defense Cockerill® 1030 turret concept is a lightweight, low profile, remotely operated, modular turret fitted with a 30x173mm gun such as the Mk44S, is now under development and will be ready mid-2021. Its lightweight (<1.5t with ballistic protection level 2 in standard configuration) and small ring (1.5m) with up to 200 ready-rounds, fitted with 2 digital sighting systems (panoramic and gunner linked to the gun), with a high elevation (up to 70°) and able to integrate a wide variety of add-ons (ATGM, rockets, APS, 360° close observation,…) makes it ideal for most vehicles and missions (APC, IFV, anti-drones, amphibious,…) that need high firepower, high performance, and ideal situational awareness.

This turret is based on the vast experience acquired with all the Cockerill® products and with more than 600 units fitted with Mk44S gun delivered. Thanks to the high level of expertise in turret development and quality standards, Cockerill® turrets provide the best performance in term of precision, stabilization, and integration. The new state-of-the-art electronic architecture is also common to our new CPWS Gen. 2 and offers a digital technology and open architecture that allows the integration of multiple sights, AT missiles, and smoke grenade launchers – all while being vehicle manufacturer agnostic.

The modularity concept of the 1030 allows it to be multi-mission capable with a fully configurable turrets based on customer needs. We are prepared to propose either a full option turret with ballistic protection level 4, 200 ready-rounds with Anti-Tank missiles for maximum protection and an ultra-lightweight turret, or low-cost version, without ballistic protection for amphibious vehicles.

Brad Herndon, Vice President at John Cockerill Defense America: “We are proud to present this innovative new lightweight and powerful concept to the American market. Our ambition is to remain at the forefront of technology and respond to the growing need to support cross-domain maneuver. We continue to enhance our state-of-the-art modular turrets – capable of pairing with drones, firing missiles, and integrating with simulators…all packaged with requisite training and support services.”
